Anita Zuberi

Faculty Research Associate & Survey Research Program Co-Director

Anita Zuberi, PhD is a Faculty Research Associate and Co-Director of the Survey Research Program at UCSUR. Her research lies at the intersection of urban poverty, racial inequality, and social policy, with a particular focus on the role of neighborhoods in shaping the health and well-being of low-income households.  Her research involves a mix of qualitative and quantitative methodological approaches, community-engagement, and evaluation.  Her work has been funded by the Russell Sage Foundation, R.K Mellon Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. She has partnered with local government agencies and community organizations, such as the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania, and Bethlehem Haven, to address issues of poverty, housing, and health.

Before coming to UCSUR, she was a Professor at Duquesne University in the Department of Sociology, where she taught courses on Social Problems & Social Policy, Research Methods, and Human Services.  Prior to that, she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Center on Race and Social Problems at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work and completed a MacArthur Postdoctoral Fellowship with Dr. Wayne Osgood in Criminology and Sociology at Penn State University. Her interdisciplinary training allows her to work well with faculty and students across the University, especially those interested in doing community-engaged work.
