Interactive Voice Response (IVR)
IVR is an automated system where a recorded voice administers survey questions / scripts and detects voice and keypad inputs from a home phone or cell phone. IVR is ideal for ecological momentary assessment (EMA) data collection as well as daily self report data collection.
The Survey Research Program (SRP) utilizes an IVR solution hosted by Twilio, a cloud communications company. Among other services, Twilio provides hosting for voice applications that communicate securely with UCSUR data servers. SRP combines Twilio cloud hosting services with in-house created, securely staged, and database-backed voice applications. By combining the voice capabilities of Twilio with the University of Pittsburgh’s secure data center we can offer a level of data integration unmatched by most IVR vendors.
Short Message Service (SMS) Data Collection
Twilio, also, enables UCSUR to offer text message data collection services to the greater research community. We can programmatically send, receive, store, and respond to SMS messages in order to custom build text message questionnaires and surveys for our clients.
Twillio’s cloud-based architecture and low cost of operation allows UCSUR to offer IVR and SMS services at very reasonable operating costs.
